Too Late

Too late – you are too late

To pour out from your chalice

Your vile and spitten hate

 Your ever present malice

So long, my friend, so long

Before you know, I’m gone

No more your mournful song

Now I’m the favoured one

At last – I’m free at last

And now I’m on my way

Your dark games of the past

I now no longer play

Black Dog

What did you see

That we didn’t see

What did you know

That we couldn’t know

What caused you to suddenly

Leave your vestals so

While we see darkly

Did you see clearly

Does the black dog stalk again,

New fears in the old refrain

Dark harbinger now in your presence

Warning of some consequence

We are all left to suppose

You now are in complete repose.

I wanna be the leader

I wanna be the leader

Can I be the leader?

Can I? I can?

Promise? Promise?

Yippee I’m the leader

I’m the leader

OK what shall we do?

Relaxing with Taxidermy - John Hegley

When their Chihuahua got stuffed
they were really chuffed,
no need to feed her
or walkies on a lead her
no more poop to scoop
and doesn't she look

smashing on the mantle piece?
She'll always look at the

camera now.
I don't know why we

bothered having her alive at all.

Poem by a busy lecturer –

written in 5 minutes!

I would write you a poem if I had time

I would make it scan and make it rhyme

It would wing your soul, it would soothe your mind

But I’ve too many jobs and hills to climb.

I would write you a song – just for you, from me

With words to blend with its melody

It would touch your heart, it would set you free

But I’ve too much to do so it just can’t be...

An Owner's Complaint - John Hegley

I've got a dog that's more
like a carrot than a dog.
It's hairy,
but only very slightly.
It's got no personality
to speak of,
no bark to bark of,
no head
no legs
no tail
and it's all
orange
and
crunchy.
